Rupert Everett has disclosed that he was “dismissed” from the upcoming season of Emily In Paris, after portraying an interior designer in the previous season of the popular Netflix series.
The actor — celebrated for his role as the GBF to Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding — will be saying goodbye to his character Giorgio Barbieri before the arrival of Emily In Paris’ fifth season. He remarked that his exit was quite abrupt from Netflix’s perspective.

“I was fired,” Everett shared with Vanity Fair regarding his unexpected departure from Paris.
“I performed a scene in the latest season, and they assured me, ‘Next year we’ll talk.’”

Everett was so eager to return to the Parisian scene that he admitted, “I waited for them to call me.”
“In the end, it never happened, and they simply let me go,” he revealed.

Although it is a significant loss for fans of Giorgio’s unending curiosity, Everett reassured audiences that this is just the nature of showbiz.
“The entertainment industry is always challenging, from start to finish. When they draft the screenplay, they initially want you, but then circumstances change, and your character is no longer needed,” he explained.
“I don’t know why.”

Regarding his feelings about leaving Paris, Everett described it as a “tragedy” that left him bedridden.
“For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it,” he confessed.
Vanity Fair reported that a source close to the production indicated Giorgio’s storyline had simply reached its conclusion (there’s only so much interior designing one can do, after all), while Netflix chose not to comment on Everett’s dismissal.
He isn’t the only cast member saying au revoir during Emily In Paris’ four-season journey. Camille Razat — who portrays Emily’s (Lily Collins) friend-turned-romantic-rival Camille — has also confirmed her departure before season five.

Meanwhile, Chef Gabriel actor Lucas Bravo is returning for the new season, although he hasn’t appeared particularly thrilled about it — if *those* comments are any indication.
Whatever unfolds, Emily will be back for another round of beret-wearing escapades when Emily In Paris’ fifth season premieres on Netflix later this year.

And don’t worry, series creator Darren Star stated that the show will continue as long as Netflix welcomes it.
Or until they run out of baguettes.
